Mabws Fawr (ii)

‘Mabws Fawr’ is the view from the main road, the A487, from Saint Davids to Fishguard, (seen by standing in front of bus stop and looking south across the valley, to be precise) just below Mathry. Nicola and I had seen the triangular woods many time before we went to live there, even before the barn conversions took place. We could see the old farmhouse (which became the studio and gallery rooms) in the woods, and often wondered who lived there, little knowing that one day it would be us. When we heard it was for sale we tried to buy it, but couldn’t afford it, but a couple of years later, after the barns were converted, the price was reduced, we had a little more money, and our bank manager Steve was kind to us…so we lived there for a few years, clearing streams and making paths through the woods.
